Top Ten Least Polluted Cities

Downtown Santa Fe, NM

Last week we highlighted the ten most polluted metro areas in America as reported by the American Lung Association.

Downtown Santa Fe, NM

This week the American Lung Association released their top ten least polluted cities in the U.S.  The big difference in both reports is the size of the cities on the list.  None of the top ten least polluted cities highlighted in the report is really a major metropolis.  It’s an unfair comparison from the reporting aspect when taking into account the sizes of the cities being reported.  The American Lung Association’s report focuses on particle pollution in each city.  This year’s top ten least polluted cities, and again, some of them in my opinion wouldn’t qualify as a city are (listed one to ten):  Santa Fe, NM, Cheyenne, WY, Prescott, AZ, Tucson, AZ, Albuquerque, NM, Redding, CA, Colorado Springs, CO, Flagstaff, AZ, Anchorage, AK, and Boise City, ID.  As you can see all of the least polluted “cities” are in the west, with a surprising number of them located in Arizona and New Mexico.  So if air quality is an important attribute for you, the above listed communities would be the places to relocate to.  For more information you can visit the American Lung Association at www.lung.org.
