Happy Birthday America! As a nation it is one of the best days we share from a party perspective. Not a political party perspective, but one from a hey let’s party! As a nation we throw more parades on this day, invite friends and family over for a barbeque, or for a picnic in one of our public parks – more so than on any other day. The beer and hot dog companies can attest to that fact as well. We consume more beer and hot dogs on this day than any other. And then let us not forgot the cacophony we create as a nation around 9 pm on this evening. We spend more on fireworks collectively than any other event worldwide on our collective birthday as a nation. America does know how to have a good time. What does this have to do with the environment you ask? Nothing really, it is one day we tend to over look all things political and from this sites perspective – environmental. It’s one day we collectively let our hair down and celebrate this nation’s existence.
We leave you with a great 4th of July quote from Erma Bombeck, “You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.”
